The best small cabins in the Dolomites do one thing well: they make the mountains feel close without asking you to give up comfort, privacy, or a good night’s sleep. For one or two people, that sweet spot can be a tiny lakeside chalet, a private room in a high rifugio, a secluded forest cabin, or a romantic alpine hut above a pasture.

The Dolomites do not ease you into the Alps. One minute you are walking through cow pastures and larch forests, and the next you are staring at pale limestone towers that look almost unreal in the late-day light.
